Here Caison is demonstrating how to find a partner.

Once you find your partner you sit EEKK, elbow elbow knee knee.

Reading with a friend is so much fun.
You can learn so much from each other.

Good Fit Reading

Are my shoes a good fit for Gracie?
Are Gracie's shoes a good fit for me?
NOOOOO!
So pick a book that is a good fit for you.

The students thought this was a funny lesson.

We learned how to pick good fit books
to read during Reading Workshop.

We are also working on reading stamina and how to become an independent reader.

Bear Brag Award for the
week of September 9.

Our First Assembly

Today the students attended their first School Wide Assembly, Rachael's Challenge

Rachael Scott was a young girl who was killed in the Columbine Shootings.  She had a journal that was discovered about spreading kindness to everyone.

Bear Creeks adopts the Rachael's Challenge.  We work at being kind to others and catching others being kind in order to start a chain reaction of kindness.

Five Senses

In science we are learning about our Five Senses.
We used Gummy Life Savers to do an experiment

When the students first got the life saver it was wrapped in foil.  We talked about what senses we could use to figure
out what was in the foil.
 The we unwrapped it and
used smell,
 Taste
 Touch
 Sight
 and hearing
 before we finally ate it.

As we discovered our five senses we developed this chart.

Color Words

This week while working on reading our color words we read two very fun books and did activities to go with each.  One was Elmer the Elephant.  Elmer is a very colorful unique elephant.  The kids enjoyed him and his adventures.

The other book was Pete the Cat.  If you have not read Pete the Cat you need to look for it and read it to you children.  It is a very whimsical fun book about the adventures of a very fun loving cat.

Week 2 Fun

We had such a great week.
The focus right now is learning the Kindergarten routine.

We started Reading Workshop.
The students self select their book and read independently.
We introduced the reading strategy EAGLE Eye.  They look at the pictures to figure out words.  They also just read the pictures to comprehend the story. Reading the pictures is the beginning stages to reading.

Are these pictures of them reading not adorable.

They are doing a great job and working independently on a project.

But what they really want to do is projects on the IPads.  So cute!!!
Here they are exploring an alphabet app.

This week in math we worked on measurement.  We measured all week to discover longer and shorter.

Here we traced our foot, measured it, wrote how many cubes long it is then lined them up from shortest to longest.

Our foot length ranged from 9 cubes long to 13 cubes long.

Our Bear Brag Award recipients this week were Maren and Connor.
