First Grade Turkey Program

Today we got to go to the cafeteria and see First Grade Performance of Thanksgiving Songs.

Earning Feathers

Earning Feathers this week was a fun twist to our
learning about The First Thanksgiving.
For the most part everyone can write their name in upper and lower case letters, recite their phone number and know their birthday.
But tying shoes was the stress of the week.  They practiced all week then when the big day was here they were hilarious.
Since this is such a developmental skill everyone got a feather that said either tied my shoes or learning to tie my shoes.

I think this is going to be my favorite picture of the year.  They worked together either complementing their friend for a good job or trying to help their friend tie their shoe.  Priceless.

Turkey Talk Skyping

Today we skyped with a Kindergarten class room in Waxahachie Texas.  They had made disguised turkey's so they would not be eaten.  So they shared with us.  We had read the book Turkey Trouble and written Save a Turkey Eat more ________ so we shared with them.
Sometimes I think the teachers get a bigger kick out of skyping than the students.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell today was a blast.
We loved all the fun stuff the students brought.
This age loves talking about themselves so what better way to build a classroom community.

We set our things up like a museum and
we walked around looking at all the things.

Mini PBL about the Seasons

Reading Informational Text and creating about the Seasons.

This week we have been learning about Seasons in Science.  So we did a little mini PBL.  The students each picked one season.  They used books and Pebble Go to research information about their season.  Then they used their ipad to create a project about their season.  Then they made a presentation to the class.  It was a great learning experience.

Friday Free Choice

The students got time for free choice centers today.  We never have time for free choice.  This is so sad because they love it and it is so good for them.  But we are just so busy with the Kindergarten curriculum there is just not time.
Well today being Friday I made time and look how cute they are.

Playing Tea Party

Playing Legos and yes I got these sweet boys some cars.
A special request they had.

And reading books.

Planting Pumpkin

We planted pumpkin seeds several weeks
back in cups in the classroom.
They grew nicely (forgot to take a picture).

So today we went out to the Bear Creek Garden and planted them.

The garden was a mess.  So first we had to take
all the weeds and overgrown plants out.
The students had a blast.  They got dirt and had permission
to be a little wild pulling out very large weeds.

We were lucky because today we had a
Watch Dog, Mr. Stone so he was able to help us.

We are so excited to see our pumpkin grow.

Who does not love cupcakes with sprinkles?

Cupcakes are always fun!
So today we read a book called Camillia the Cupcake Fairy.
We talked about if we wanted to eat a cupcake liner, a cupcake plain, a cupcake with frosting or a cupcake with sprinkles.  Of course they all wanted the cupcake with sprinkles.

Then we talked about our work in school, our behavior or just generally anything we do we want it to be as good as a cupcake with sprinkles.

Then of we all ate cupcakes with sprinkles of course.
