JDRF

We had a school wide campaign for Juvenile Diabetes.
Thank you to all who participated.
We had fun dancing in PE.

Turkey Fun

Today we had just plain old kindergarten fun.
We used oreo cookies, malted milk balls, red hots, candy corn and icing to make a yummy turkey.

The kids thought the red hots for eyes made him look dorky.  I think they are right.  I will have to think of something different for next year.
What did we learn besides having fun?
We learned how to follow directions, patience
and how to be messy.

Prepositions

Yes, Kindergartners can learn about prepositions.
When the students see family this Thanksgiving and the family ask them what are you learning in Kindergarten.
They are not allowed to say "Nothing".
They are suppose to say "We are learning Prepositions".  LOL.

Here they are using their turkey to show over and beside.

Here they are with a completed ipad project where they created a pic collage of pictures showing position words.
Here the ticket jar is over the glue stick and the table is under the glue stick.

Summer Fall

Do you remember this picture from September?

Now look at it in November.  The kids were pretty amazed.
This is a great way to teach them about
change over time and the seasons.
Plus we get to go outside for Science.

Save a Turkey

What are you eating for Thanksgiving?
Turkey?
Well that is what you think
We read a book called Turkey Trouble.  It is an adorable book about a turkey who does not want to get eaten for Thanksgiving.

So the students decided on other things to eat on Thanksgiving.

Giving Thanks

We started November / Thanksgiving fun this week.
We started by making an I am Thankful For Circle Map.
The students are thankful for many things.
We created a Kindergarten Thankful Tree.

We are writing our own I am thankful for ... book.
I will post about it next week when we are through.

Growing Pumpkins

If you remember the post from last week, we planted the pumpkin seeds we took out of the pumpkin we carved.
Look at them this week.
AMAZING!
The kids were super impressed.

Then on Friday we went out and planted
them in the Bear Creek Garden.
We will go out every week and water our pumpkin plant and wait and see what happens.  Cross your finger we can grow a pumpkin.

Making Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin, Pumpkin More Pumpkin

This week we made a pumpkin Pie.

We started the week reading
I know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie.

Then we made a flow map for How to Make a Pumpkin Pie.
Then finally we got to make the pumpkin pie.

Yum Yum!

Then finally we wrote about the experience and
created a pumpkin pie.
How cute are these?

Pumpkin Week

We had a very busy week.
We started the week with bus safety.
They loved it.  They got to sit on the
bus and then jump out the back.

We carved a pumpkin with the whole Kindergarten
as a start to our week long writing, How to Carve a Pumpkin.

Throughout the week the students worked really hard to write a story about How to carve a pumpkin.

After we carved the pumpkin, we planted the seeds.
We can't wait to see if we can grow a pumpkin.

We did a science experiment.
Does a pumpkin sink or float?
It floated.

On Thursday we had a "Pumpkin Investigation" Day.
We counted the lines and measured the pumpkin.
We scooped out the seeds and counted them.

Then we prepared the seeds for roasting.

 Yum! Yum!

Finally, we carved the pumpkin.

We ended the day Thursday with a ghostly Treat.

This week was also Red Ribbon Week.

We wore our favorite jersey, mix match shoes and boots, bright colors, orange and red.  We pledged to live drug free.
